Site of one of the oldest civilisations of the world, Bahrain is a fairly liberal Islamic state in the Arabian Gulf, also referred to as the 'Pearl of the Gulf'. Islamic architecture, traditional souqs, and state-of-the-art infrastructure promise to make your stay enjoyable.
Visit the archaeological sites, museums and the temple, fort and mansions in the city to soak in the atmosphere. You could try the 'shawarma' (lamb or chicken carved from a huge rotating spit) or 'Baklava', a sweet dessert - and wash it down with Arabian coffee. Try haggling at a souq for a good Persian carpet or pick up some lovely gold jewellery.
