One of the smallest countries in West Africa, Gambia's chief attractions is its street culture, warm, friendly people, colourful weekly markets and its uniquely African experience. Great ethnic diversity makes Gambia a vibrant cultural jamboree. The River Gambia that runs through the country, provides ample opportunities for fishing, boating and sailing. The much-publicised annual Roots Homecoming Festival is to attract nationals from the world over. Historical sites like the stone circles; Fort Bullen, Fort James, Old French Trading House (Albreda) and Village of Juffureh make for interesting sightseeing. Batik, tie-and-dye fabrics, masks, leather goods, jewellery, sand painting and basketry available here are beautiful reminders of The Gambia.
